With the help of Dick Howe, Register of Deeds, in the Lowell Courthouse, I find myself in the basement catacombs surrounded by thousands of old record books. They are divided into three categories: Grantor (Seller) and Grantee (Buyer) indexes, and the source documents for these indexes.

On January 24, 1939, Joseph J Sweeney and Catherine V. Sweeney, husband and wife, sold “some” land to Luanna. Plan Book 59, Plan 84. Book 929, Page111 (This appears to be the land across the street, but I don’t recognize the shape. I might very well be wrong about this though.)

FRANK DREW TO LUANNA DECATUR 1936
Frank C. Drew sold the house to Luanna B. Decatur on August 18, 1936, Book 886, Pages 450-451. Note: There is also reference to Joshua DeCatur on those pages.

JENNIE DREW TO FRANK DREW 1934
Jennie B. Drew sold the house to Frank Drew, husband, (by two deeds?) on May 7, 1934, Book 844, Page 136-137

FISHER TO DREW 1889

Alvan and Amanda Fisher sold the land to Jennie B. Drew on May 17, 1889, Book 206, Pgs 24-26. This is where it gets complicated because many people are mentioned along with Alvan and Amanda: Samuel A. Hamblin ( a misspelling I think…should be Hamlin as in other documents) and his wife Adeline Burbeck, Francis L. and Helen Fletcher, Paul F.S. and Ann T. Clark, Noah and Francis A. Prescott, Charles and Emma F Pickering, James and Mary Smith. Jennie Drew paid $3,200.00. There is a reference towards the end Page 24 that mentions that one of the boundaries “passing the homestead of one Holsworth, deceased”.

HAMLIN TO FISHER 1888
In Book 202, Page 21 (Of Pages 20-23) there is a note in the column referring to the above document Book 206, Page 23. This Book 202, Page 21 is dated December 1, 1888, and discusses one Abbie Hamlin, wife of Samuel A. Hamlin of Westford (different spelling, see above) who may have sold the property to Fisher.

Note: This area was known as the Eli Tower Farm and was probably bordered by Stony Brook to the north and Stony Brook Rd to the East and the Adams property to the West and Lowell Road to the south, but at this time it is just my conjecture.

Note: In Book 202, Page 21, the property is defined as: “…the Tower Farm, so called, situated in the easterly part of said Westford containing about one hundred and twenty five acres and bounded and described as follow. Beginning at the northwesterly corner thereof at Stony Brook and by land of one Buckminster: thence running easterly by said brook to land formerly of Joshua Decatur, deceased; thence southerly by said Decatur land to the highway from said Westford to Lowell and known as the Stony Brook road: thence crossing said road southerly. Westerly and southerly by land formerly of said Decatur to land formerly of one Snow land westerly and southerly to land of Marcellus A. (?) Fletcher land to the highway passing the homestead formerly of one Holsworth, deceased, thence by said last named highway northerly to land formerly of said Holsworth: thence in a broken line northerly. Easterly and northerly by various courses on said Holsworth land. land of one Cummings and land of one Boynton to said first named highway: thence crossing said highway southerly by said Buckminster land to the point of beginning being all of said Tower farm.
